This side still has the old white fire-escapes and the various back entrances, as well as the elevator entrance, which is basically a dimly-lit shed straight out of a horror film from which willing patrons are sent to their certain death.
Once, during a musical, we set the smoke alarms off using a mist machine and I had to evacuate 250 people out this fire escape. It was surreal. Didn’t make it into the book, but it’s another of my favourite parts of the theatre.
