Upstairs, the carpet’s a bit less lush, and it’s possibly slightly cleaner. I dropped in with the cleaner, and the place is so spotless it almost feels wrong, They’d recently cleaned after a big show, but in the lengthy stretches between shows it’s considerably dustier up here.
When I ushered shows here, my perch was right at the top of these stairs, keeping an eye on any actors who had to creep up and into the audience. I still know every step.
